Design: 2011 Spring Colour Palette courtesy of Pantone

You too can be fashion forward
(If you're looking for 2012 Pantone Spring Colour Palette look here.)

This tidbit was released last September, but bears being brought to top of minds as those of us who are designers begin creating for Spring 2011. The "Pantone Colour Fashion Report" lists the 10 hot colours for this Spring. Its release coincided with New York Fashion Week. I can see the sneers, but read on.

According to the site: “The colors designers have chosen for the spring season present an interesting marriage of unexpected warm and cool tones,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “By cleverly combining complementary colors, those that are opposites on the color wheel, they have created a striking intensity in the palette. These unique color combinations make it possible for consumers to pair existing pieces in colors traditionally associated with fall, with new favorites to punch up springtime wardrobes.”

I usually don't put much stock in these kind of pronouncements. I'm a designer. I know what's right... It does refer to fashion mainly, but I had a design project, needed a quick fix, and resorted to the expertise of others. I have to admit, they work together very well, and look very fresh. Compliments to those who chose this year's selection.
