Recipe: Get your motor running, then head out on the highway!

A morning without coffee is like sleep. – Anonymous

Brrrrr. It's -14°C here in Nova Scotia this morning (wind chill -25°!!), so something a little "uplifting" is called for. I had my first Mexican Coffee at a local Second Cup here in Halifax. It was a great way to warm up on my way to College, many, many years ago… It's not that easy to find, but I don't know why. Probably the cayenne, but once you taste this you'll be hooked.

Mmmm... Chocolate, cinnamon and cayenne.

Mexican Coffee with Cayenne
Prep: 5 min  |  Brew: 5 min  |  Servings 8

coffee grounds (usual amount for making 8 cups coffee)
1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2  tsp cayenne pepper
whipped cream
sugar to taste, per individual serving
ground cinnamon (for sprinkling)

For weekend consumption: 1 oz Kahlua per cup (not recommended before work!)

Put coffee, cocoa, cinnamon and cayenne pepper in a coffee filter. Brew as you normally would for 8 cups of coffee in the coffee maker.

Whip cream with a little sugar until stiff. Spoon a generous 2 tablespoons of whipped cream onto coffee and sprinkle with cinnamon.

The cayenne adds a little tasty spice to brighten up the start of the day.
